- Jedediah Smith Memorial Bicycle Trail
Offering 23 miles of scenic trails for bikers (extending from Old Sacramento to Beal's

More than 120 city parks encompassing over 2,000 acres provide outstanding natural and
developed park land. The City of Sacramento has been recognized nationally as the

- Del Paso Regional Park

horseshoe pits, playground equipment, volleyball standards and a central location are some

hiking, archery, boating and picnicking.

- William Land Park

County Parks
Outside the city limits there are approximately 10,000 acres of scenic land maintained
by the County of Sacramento. This natural and historical land consists of various
recreation areas including parks, fishing and boating facilities and golf courses. For

- American River Parkway
On the banks of the beautiful winding American River, once home of the Maidu Indians, is
written the course of California's history. A necessity for settler and farmers, an
adventure for gold seekers, home to diverse flora and fauna, it is one of the few
remaining riparian habitats in the state. The focal point for all of this, the lovely
American River Parkway, has been enjoyed by 5 million annual visitors. A 23-mile river
system through Sacramento with bicycle trails, walking and jogging trails, horse trails,
picnic areas, rafting, fishing and more. Accessible from Old Sacramento by foot or

- Ancil Hoffman Park
6700 Tarshes Drive, Carmichael; 489-4918. Golf course, picnic area and the Effie Yeaw
Nature Center. Live birds and animals, a 4,000-square foot exhibit room and nature trails
through a 77-acre nature sanctuary give visitors an up-close look at the plants and
animals of the American River Parkway. Individuals and families may use self-guided
facilities or attend scheduled weekend programs. Daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. $4 parking fee.
- Camp Sacramento
Family Camp off Highway 50, 17-mile west of Lake Tahoe. Activities for the entire family
including nature and environmental programs, hikes, art & crafts and much, much more.

- Elk Grove Regional Park
In the town of Elk Grove, south of Sacramento; 366-2066. 125 acres of park, offering a
wide variety of recreational opportunities. The visitor will find reserveable picnic
areas, 12 ball diamonds, a swimming pool, a three-acre lake, playground apparatus and
performing arts facility.
- Folsom Lake State Recreation Area

fishing, hiking and swimming. A full-service marina and food service available; bicycle

- Gibson Ranch County Park

character of a ranch. Along with the well-developed farm atmosphere is a beautifully
maintained picnic area that encompasses 40 acres. In addition, Gibson Ranch offers
swimming, horse trails, bicycling, fishing, hiking, playground equipment and shaded picnic

- Rancho Seco Regional Park
(209) 748-2318. Twin Cities Road, owned and operated by SMUD. This park offers more than
400 acres of shaded picnic areas, beach areas, youth campground and three miles of
shoreline that encompass the 165-acre lake. Some of the activities that can be enjoyed at
Rancho Seco include: picnics, biking, hiking, swimming, sailing, nature study, fishing and
windsurfing.
